South Side Shawl-Along!
When the weather starts to cool, the desire to wrap up in a soft, cozy shawl becomes irresistible. There is something so special about marking the new season by casting on something new. It really is a community experience: that diving into your stash with fresh eyes inspired by the season or an excited trek to your local yarn store to see whet new beauties grace their shelves.
Because we feel the same energy, we bring you TWO new free shawl patterns! The 1724 South Side Crochet Shawl free pattern and the 1824 South Side Knit Shawl free pattern. This set was designed for Miss Purl and the Chicago Yarn Crawl. And now both of these crescent shaped, two-color shawl patterns are here on the blog to help you usher in the new cozy season.
I love how easy it is to style a crescent shawl. And those little curls that show up at the tips when they hang down - so sweet!
If you’ve been part of the Stitch & Hustle community for a bit, you know these are not the first set of free knit and crochet shawl patterns we’ve shared. We love it when no matter your craft, we can offer you a great shawl for a make along.
Whether you’re an experienced knitter, a crochet enthusiast, or someone just starting your journey into the wide world of fiber, our collection of knit and crochet shawls are designed for an array of skill levels and perfect for joining the ever-popular shawl alongs. See a list of options below.
What is a Shawl Along? They are collective events where knitters and/or crocheters come together to work on the same shawl design, sharing their progress, experiences and tips with each other. It’s a fantastic way to engage with fellow makers and welcome new people into the community who are curious about yarn crafts.
Often a shawl pattern is written for just knitters or just crocheters. We love offering two patterns that are similar yet feature the beauty of each specific medium. These Stitch & Hustle patterns are designed to be inclusive and beginner friendly so you can host a Shawl Along with your fiber club and include both knitters and crocheters.
The 1724 South Side Crochet Shawl free pattern and the 1824 South Side Knit Shawl free pattern are perfect to get you in the shawl along swing of things.
While you’re here, take a look at our other knit and crochet shawl patterns that are perfect for your shawl-along! (Please note some of these patterns are paid at this time. If there are free versions of these patterns available, I’ve linked to those.)
