Cozy Slouchy Hat – FREE PATTERN
One of my biggest sellers is the Cozy Chunky Slouchy Hat. It truly is a fabulous hat. This pattern is a variation of that hat that I came up with that is great for beginners. It is not crocheted "in the round" as my hat is, but it is continuous in the same direction, so do not turn your work after each row. If you would like to buy the printed in the round version you can do so here.
Typically, I use Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick or Hometown USA for this pattern but you can also use Loops & Threads Charisma or any chunky yarn category 5 or 6.
This hat is meant to be free forming so that you can make it suit your style. You can add rows and make it as big and slouchy as you want.
I suggest making the first hat in accordance with the pattern to get a feel for the style. Please share that hats you make with this pattern on our facebook page. I am excited to see what you create.
Supplies:
Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick, Hometown USA or any Bulky yarn - 1 skein approx 90 yards
Crochet Hook Size N - 10mm
(there is no gauge for this hat. If you are a snug stitcher go up to a P - 15 mm hook)
Large needle to weave in ends
Let’s get started!
Magic Loop: Start with a magic loop.
If you do not know how to do a magic loop you can chain 3 and slip stitch together. Leave your excess yarn hanging as you can still pull tight when the hat is done and then weave in the excess yarn with your needle. Either in your magic loop or your chain circle:
Round 1: ch 2, 4 sc, all way around back to ch2, then sl st to top of ch2 to complete the row Total for Round 1 is 5 sc (incl first ch 2)
Round 2: ch 2; 2 hdc in each sc all way around back to ch2, then 1 hdc in same st as ch 2 is started, sl st to top of ch2 to complete row Total for Round 2 is 10 hdc (incl first ch 2)
Round 3: ch 2 (acts as your first hdc) then work 2 hdc in each st back to ch2, then sl st to top of ch 2 to complete the round Total for Round 4 is 20 hdc (incl first ch 2)
Round 4: ch 2, 2 dc, *1 dc, 2 dc, 1 dc*, repeat * to * all around, sl st together back to ch2, then sl st to top of ch2 to complete the row Total for Round 4 is 30 dc
Rounds 5-11 ch 2 (acts as your first dc), dc all the way around back to ch 2, then sl st to top of ch 2 to complete the row Total each Round is 30 dc
