Tutorial: How To Close Brim Up Crochet Beanies

HOW TO CLOSE YOUR BEANIE
There are lots of ways to close your Brim Up Crochet Beanies. Many patterns even have the decrease round written to create a certain shape at the peak. I like the drawstring method but sometimes it can leave me with a bulky top that doesn’t have a great weight balance and pulls.
I created this star method because it creates a beautiful shape at the hat peak and is super fast so I don’t even need many decreasing rounds! Sometimes I will even just do this decrease method rather than the one in a pattern because I know this method never fails. This will quickly become your favorite quick closure for your brim up beanies!
With my Star Method, you will always have that perfect hat closure for your brim up beanies. This method and diagram comes with all of my brim up beanie patterns like the Helix Puff Stitch Hat. Here are my step by step instructions and video tutorial to get that perfect peak.
This method is perfect for any brim to peak crochet beanie pattern. try it with some of my most popular patterns:

The first thing you want to do is always add at least one or two decrease rounds to the top of your hat. This may be called for in the pattern or you may need to add it on your own.
This helps you to create the rounded shape within the body of the hat. You do not have to do drastic decreases, but every bit helps determine the shape if the hat. Whatever your pattern calls for, you can add a single crochet round decreasing just a few stitches. The best way to do this is to do an extra round in sc and then do (sc, sc2tog) all the way around for a fast decrease.
Then that single crochet round becomes your final hat round. Fasten off the last stitch and leave about a 10 inch tail.
Turn your beanie inside out and follow this diagram to create your Star Closure. ou want to weave the tail in and out of the last round of the hat body.
Keeping the Beanie inside out, once you have thread the tail through the last round of stitches, you want to pull tight. This is how you create the "star" shape with five points and that perfect weight balance at the peak of your beanie.

Once you have your "star" shape, you take the thread and pick up the 5 points and pull them back to the center to fasten them down. This is the finishing touch that creates the gathered look as shown below.
