Go Faux It! Free Crochet Pattern Round-Up
/We all know there is so much you can do with crochet. The stitch patterns are endless! But sometimes it is a little challenging to get yourself started on something that is a little off the normal path…something that doesn’t “look like crochet.”
That’s where this free crochet pattern round up comes in!
We’re bringing you some faux-spiration to get your creative juices flowing and use your crochet skills in new ways!
Good-natured trickery! Fun textures! Stretch your crochet with a little something different. And maybe a few chances to say “It’s not knit, it’s crochet!”
Creative crochet giving you the look you want!
1: If you’d like to have a bulky knit-look beanie but are not a knitter, how about hooking up a Hatrick from Revel Crochet?
2: I love the wide front band and interesting balloon shape sleeves on the knit-look Sidney Cardigan from HanJan Crochet. And the fact there are nine size options! AND the yarn choice - beautiful Alpaca Cloud DK yarn from WeCrochet.
3: Some people think bobbles are just for knitters. It couldn’t be further from the truth! The proof is in the Bobblish Scarf from Eye Love Knots.
4: Another knit-look crochet project is the Campside Cardi from Briana K Designs. This one has a longer shape with comfy side-slits which make it perfect for throwing on when you are running out of the house.
5: How soft and snuggly does the Etela Cowl from Blue Star Crochet look? I love how the stitch and yarn choices work together to achieve a beautiful drape.
6: Add a little knit look to your home! The Astia Large Crochet Basket from Lulo Stitch Co. has tall handles perfect for helping you tote your bits and bobs.
Let’s talk texture! Cables are often associated with knitting. But crochet can cable with the best of them!
7: I love how the Ceilidh Throw from Rich Textures Crochet frames a large dramatic cable with panels of Celtic weave stitch. It also features one of our favorite yarns, Brava Worsted from WeCrochet!
8: Now this project does not involve cables specifically but the twisty panels of the Catherine Cowl from Two Brothers Blankets really remind me of them. I love how they encourage the cowl to drape nicely. (And it’s another Brava Worsted pattern!)
9: I love this cozy Crochet Cable Hat from Daisy Farm Crafts. Who doesn’t love a pom? Don’t forget to also look for the matching mitten pattern too!
These next few projects remind me more of woven projects than of knitting.
10: Have you tried Mosaic Crochet? The Brick Weave Mosaic Crochet Blanket from Nicki’s Homemade Crafts is a great project to try out a new-to-you technique.
11: Here’s another pattern that uses Mosaic Crochet in a different design. The Mosaic Crochet Placemat from Made by Goodie would be a beautiful addition to any table.
12: The design of the On the Spot Throw by Morine’s Shop for Stitch & Hustle makes me think of large-scale design woven blankets. There’s even a coloring page in the pattern to help you plan out your own personalized color choices!
Sometimes, it is your color choices working together with a design’s stitch pattern that really create a feeling of ‘faux.’
13: I love how changing colors each row among three colors of yarn makes the Crochet Scarf with Fringe from Nana’s Crafty Home look woven.
14: On first glance, the Two Color Crochet Scarf from Make It Crochet makes me think of tire tracks. But looking again I see a twist on the classic herringbone weave.
15: Houndstooth is a classic and timeless woven pattern. The Houndstooth Crochet Scarf from Dora Does shows you how to create it with crochet!
