Dragon County Shawl Free Crochet Pattern

My favorite thing to do is share patterns I deeply loved to design because it is extra fun to see what you make. I designed the Dragon County Shawl a while back and now I’m excited to bring it here to the blog as a free crochet pattern. Picture this: soft, open mohair panels that are as light as air, paired with this quirky curvy edge that’s super fun!

The Dragon County Shawl is another of my paired shawl designs for knit and crochet that are PERFECT for shawl alongs. Pop over to that post if you don’t know what I’m talking about but make sure to come back to peep this newest pattern.

AND this is another pattern featuring gorgeous Asylum Fibers yarn. If you’ve been around the blog, you know that we are tried and true fans of that fabulous fiber. (There’s almost too much proof to link but check out this, this, and this!)

Why you will LOVE the Dragon County Crochet Shawl Free Pattern

Here’s the scoop:
- Those Mohair Panels: Guys, the mohair in this shawl? It’s like crocheting clouds! It adds this elegant, breezy vibe that I just can’t get enough of. Perfect for draping over your shoulders on a cool evening.
-That Funky Curvy Edge: Not a typical shawl edge, right? This curvy design gives it a modern twist and I’m totally here for it.
- No Tight Stitches Here: I’ve added an extra turning stitch at the start of each row. Why? To stop the shawl from going all crescent on us. For this crochet shawl, we want a lovely half-circle that drapes just right.
-Chill on the Gauge: Seriously, friends, don’t sweat the gauge. Sometimes you want a crochet project you can just start without the extra step of swatching. So, keep those stitches loose and enjoy the ride.

- You may see significant change in finished measurements after blocking.
Please see video here on Stitch & Hustle to learn the fhdc if you do not know it. There will be a significant change to the shape of your shawl if you use a chain to start instead of the fhdc.
- If you notice your fabric begin to “curl” up and round then you are likely doing your beginning ch 2 of each row to tightly In this case do a ch 3 instead to start each row.
